Ivy was gutted.
Eliot had called and they'd passed her the message Klaus had died. She couldn't remember when that was, but they'd tried to feed her at least three times, she thought. And there had to have been at least one night because they'd gassed her to sleep.
Wrapped up tight in a straight jacket and chains, the guard wheeled her in a wheel chair to the visitor's room where she could see Aaron face to face.
She'd been doped up before, but today she was perfectly lucid. And utterly despondent.
"Hey, preacher," she said quietly.

Date: 2021-02-03 07:48 am (UTC)He couldn't stay by Klaus' side every second of the day, of course, and Ivy deserved the visits he regularly paid her. But when he saw her, it was clear that she knew.
"Hello, Ivy. You've heard?"

Date: 2021-02-03 08:10 am (UTC)"Eliot left a message," she confirmed with a weak nod. Slowly, she lifted her chin weakly and looked at him.
"Did he suffer?" Ivy asked.

Date: 2021-02-03 08:48 am (UTC)"No," Aaron replied quietly. Looking at her made him feel even more remorseful than before. "I don't think so."
He reached over, but a cough from an orderly clearly indicated he shouldn't attempt to touch her.
"I'm so sorry, Ivy."

Date: 2021-02-03 09:31 am (UTC)A sticky, green tear dripped off her lashes.
"He's still here, though, right? He's a ghost now, right?" She pushed. She'd been holding onto that thought, but the doctor just thought she was delusional and upped her dose.

Date: 2021-02-03 11:27 am (UTC)Aaron hadn't meant to give her false hope, but when she gave it herself, he couldn't refuse her another sliver.
"We think he might come back," he admitted quietly. "He still looks like in a peaceful sleep."

Date: 2021-02-03 11:50 am (UTC)"Get him back," she said, firm as she could. More sticky green tears welled in her eyes.
"Get him back, Aaron. I need him."

Date: 2021-02-03 03:14 pm (UTC)Aaron could only nod. "I'll do what I can," he promised, like a true hypocrite. What business did he have meddling in her life, trying to make her believe in the good in man, when he had killed the man who was effectively her brother.
"Will you make sure he has a sister to come back to?" he asked, by which he meant she should work on getting better.

Date: 2021-02-03 03:26 pm (UTC)Ivy nodded and then tried to rub the wet from her eyes onto her shoulder.
"At least one not wearing this bullshit," she said. Everything about her was beaten down. It had never been like this in Arkham. It almost made her homesick.

Date: 2021-02-03 04:33 pm (UTC)"How is that going?" Aaron asked, sympathetically.

Date: 2021-02-03 09:10 pm (UTC)"I don't know. Every time I start to think, they give me a shot and hook me up to shock treatment," she replied.

Date: 2021-02-03 09:16 pm (UTC)"And therapy?" Aaron asked, shocked at hearing the way they were treating her.

Date: 2021-02-03 09:26 pm (UTC)She snorted bitterly.
"No. You've got to be fucking joking. Have you never been in one of these places?" she asked, then shook her head. A lackluster lock of hair fell in her face. She blew it away. "No. No, not a lot of people know what goes on in places like this. No one cares."

Date: 2021-02-03 09:39 pm (UTC)Aaron wasn't naive, but he didn't believe there was no hope for her. He would make a point of talking to John. Unless, of course, he turned out to be a true murderer, in which case he would only talk to the wall in his cell.
"Don't give up," he said. "The garden is in such a state. Jimmy tries, but... The plants protest."

Date: 2021-02-03 10:11 pm (UTC)A spark of light lit up her eyes and, broken down as she was, she smiled.
"It's too cold for much water," she said. "It's not going to do well without me. It's just too cold."

Date: 2021-02-04 07:14 am (UTC)"Maybe we can cover them somehow?" he asked, glad to see this at least brought her out of her misery a little.

Date: 2021-02-04 10:12 am (UTC)"Some cloth would help," she nodded. It struck her that she'd never get to make a peach for Klaus again and she quietly began to cry again.

Date: 2021-02-04 10:22 am (UTC)Aaron wished he could offer her a shoulder, or even just a reassuring squeeze on her arm.
"Would you like to talk about him?" He offered instead, guessing that it was probably Klaus she was thinking of.

Date: 2021-02-04 10:24 am (UTC)Ivy sniffles loudly and nodded, but couldn't seem to speak for a long moment.
"I loved him, you know?" Ivy sobbed.
An orderly moved in with a syringe filled with a bright chartreuse medicine in it.

Date: 2021-02-04 10:29 am (UTC)"Please, there's no need," Aaron said to the orderly. "She's grieving the loss of a friend."

Date: 2021-02-04 10:32 am (UTC)"Sorry, man. Orders," he said gruff. He felt her neck and pressed the injector there. Ivy was shocked out of her sadness, then looked I'll.
"I wish they'd stop doing that," she said. "Normally I shrug meds off, but I think that's drain cleaner."

Date: 2021-02-04 10:43 am (UTC)How on earth was she supposed to get better if they kept medicating her like that? She was offered no chance to improve, or to show her good will. And quite frankly; how was she supposed to believe in the goodness of mankind if this kept happening?
He decided he would talk to John. He got her here in the first place, after all. Perhaps he could help.
Perhaps Aaron could do something good at least, for someone.
"Me too," he said, quietly. "How do you feel now?"
no subject
Date: 2021-02-04 10:45 am (UTC)"Sleepy," she said. "And sad. Really, really fucking sad."
"She's fine," the orderly said. "Doctor's orders."
no subject
Date: 2021-02-04 10:55 am (UTC)Aaron only eyed the orderly. He couldn't help it, of course, if he had orders, but Aaron did not agree and it was very clear.
"I'm so sorry, Ivy," he said. "You should know - perhaps you do. You meant the world to Klaus too."

Date: 2021-02-04 11:18 am (UTC)Ivy looked up at him, puffy but serious.
"Have you told his family? His sister and brothers?"
She wondered if they'd even care.

Date: 2021-02-04 11:31 am (UTC)Aaron shook his head. "I hold hope. I will, of course, if he doesn't come back."

Date: 2021-02-04 12:21 pm (UTC)"Please get him back. Please," she begged. Ivy was not one to beg, and certainly not beg a man.
Yet, here she was.

Date: 2021-02-04 12:34 pm (UTC)"I'll do everything I can," Aaron said, feeling like an utter sack of shit, to be perfectly blunt.

Date: 2021-02-04 12:45 pm (UTC)"You've gotta," she said. "If you can't...don't come back."

Date: 2021-02-04 12:48 pm (UTC)Aaron nodded. He understood that. He wouldn't argue against that.

Date: 2021-02-04 12:50 pm (UTC)"You should go before I start puking," she said. "If you could get them to stop poisoning me, that'd be great, though."

Date: 2021-02-04 12:59 pm (UTC)"Take care, Ivy," Aaron said as he stood and reached over for a quick touch of his hand on her cheek before it could be swatted or coughed away.
